He's a victim of one of the most common cognitive biases: availability bias/heuristics.

Availability heuristics is defined as, "When a person makes a judgment about the probability of an event based on the ease with which it comes to mind."

If channel 7 says there's a shooting in their neighborhood, they automatically assume that shootings are up.

Truth be told, they could right or they could be wrong. I honestly don't know. Just show me the stats compared to last year and I'll accept their position. I have no dog in this fight one way or the other.

As of now we can see evidence that the murder rate in Boston is trending downward from last year. That is a fact.

Their positions seems to be that even with the reduction in murders, shootings are still up. Show me the evidence and I'll concede.

Shootings were up significantly during the pandemic and coming into this year (almost 30 percent), however they appear to dropped/leveled off to previous levels of violence for at least the present time.

I don't come on your cities forum (wherever that may be) and convince people it's a shthole. I lived in Cambridge 10 years ago, and have no business telling people what it's like to live there today. Find a new hobby. We get it. you guys moved to the suburbs and are now dead bent on telling everyone how shtty Boston is.

No one is saying Boston is a sh*thole...it's far from it. Look at what it costs to live there! But yes there is crime.

For a big city. There are few cities in the country that are both bigger and safer. If you go by violent crime rate El Paso, Seattle, Columbus, Honolulu, Austin, San Diego, San Jose, and NYC are the only ones. That's especially impressive considering how small the city limits are compared to the metro area.

Nobody is calling Boston a shthole. As for me, I still have family there and it's not in my best interest to see the city go down the drain. Get a bit defensive, much?

^ outdated. No way NYC is currently safer than Boston.
