It seems to be the same for sporting events. Do areas and stadiums still sell out ? Perhaps in Boston they do but I know teams in places like LA and San Francisco have had trouble. Curious to see what will happen this football season.

More and more people have stopped paying for cable.

Really? So these people are more likely to pay for tickets for theaters and sporting events you're saying?

I might not represent most, but I during non-pandemic times am absolutely more likely to pay for theater or game tickets than I am for a cable subscription.

Same here. Though I've almost reached a point where between high speed internet and streaming app subscriptions, I'm paying close to what I was in the past for a cable tv/internet bundle. I have Xfinity which I don't love, but it's the best actual product and pay for Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ and Paramount+. Xfinity includes Peacock, and my AT&T includes HBOMax. As a bonus, I mooch NESN and ESPN off of my mother who still pays for cable (she, in turn mooches my Netflix, Disney+, and HBOMax) but if she ditched cable, I'd live without NESN or ESPN - just don't need Cable.

I do buy tickets to the theater (probably 5-6 movies per year) and sports (7-10 Sox games, sometimes even the 10 game packs, a handful of Bruins/Celtics games, a Patriots game occasionally, and some minor league baseball and college hockey/basketball - PC Friars Basketball is the most underrated sports event in New England IMHO). We also make it a point to go watch games at local sports bars too - the shared experience is a really enjoyable part of sports. Not as much for movies, but it is to a degree. I've yet to see a comedy at home that was funnier than what I've seen in the theaters. Laughter is contagious.

People are replacing cable with subscription-based streaming services. People are still paying to have TV in the home.

The more people unplug and go to streamers, it is ironic that there are increasing calls for bundles with combined interfaces (sort of like cable). There will be consolidation among the streamers and you will end up paying as much as cable for comparable content. People might be surprised if they added up the cost of their streaming subscriptions. Also, companies like Netflix have developed the technology to effectively pinpoint and police login sharing. They will slowly implement this wherever they can.

Tough to recreate watching a horror movie in a theater as well.

I know. I was replying to the assumption that people pay for cable.
