Hi! I am Australian living in Manchester UK who is moving to Boston for sabbatical period of 5 months. Having never been there I was wondering if anyone can offer advice about finding accomodation. Happy to rent single room or share with roommate. Must be furnished. Was considering Cambridge, but any advice on other safe and nice neighbourhoods would be appreciated.

Nice downtown neighborhoods are Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Cambridge, brookline, Fenway. 2nd tier would be Allston, Brighton, South End, Jamaica Plain, South Boston, Somerville.

Check apartments.com or sublet.com for prices.

Use Google Maps street view to see the actual neighborhoods and properties here. Boston is almost entirely cataloged.

Once you have more of an idea of what you are interested, ask us more specific questions.

Between now and late August, there are plenty of sublet and roommate situation for the summer. Many students in MA go home for the summer. However, 5 months is tough... as it could go into winter months... and no one want to move during that time. In general, most area are safe.

Post something or look at on Craigslist.
