I don’t think most outdoor dining in the north end required street closures. They usually just took over parking spaces or plazas.

Then I really don’t see the issue other than to screw the restaurant owners but why ?

I'm going to guess she's catering to the people who catered to her politically.

Outdoor dining was for when indoor dining wasn't allowed. Now it is. Restaurants are looking to use public sidewalks to in some cases double their seating capacity. Obviously, your ability to pay a fine is greatly increased.

Add to this there are 70 outdoor patios in the North End. Compared to 1 in Chinatown, 6 in Roxbury, and ~23 on the much wider Newbury street.

The North End is in a unique situation.

Have no idea what this adds to the conversation.

Does it make sense now?

Other neighborhoods nearly aren't as crowded with restaurants. Nor are they as narrow in their street grid.

7500 isnt a lot to pay when you've doubled your capacity and you already get way more foot traffic due to being a touristy.

No it doesn't. It sounds like punishing a business because you think they can pay a bigger fee. Because you think they get more business and because they happen to be located in an older part of town with narrow streets.

Don't know what to tell you- I think this makes sense to most people.

You have increased capacity to seat thus an increased capacity for revenue and your seating is a trash and safety nuisance/hazard compare to other less dense neighborhoods. Expect to pay mitigating fees for the privilege.

Good on Wu for saying take it or leave it. This was a fair compromise.
