It seems that what makes HP 'ghetto' if you will is Cleary sq. Other than that there are very nice neighborhoods-Fairmount, Readville, George wright golf course area and the turtle pond/stonybrook area.

WR is way more expensive than HP. It has some nice neighborhoods, but other than that I dont get the draw. Please dont say proximity to boston because it's not that close. Surely not worth 700k for a simple 3 bed, 2 bath that needs updates.

Just go on redfin or realtor.com and you can check out the prices.

I don't get it either, other than maybe it captures overflow from JP, Brookline and Newton.

If you take a look at the main drag (Center Street) in W.rox vs. the main drag in HP (HP ave) look at the businesses and upkeep of the properties. Tell me where you would rather live?

Why do people dismiss the fairmount line?? It's right there in wolcott/cleary sq, it's cheap, it runs...all you have to do is look at the schedule.

Because it's not nearly as reliable as the subway (as pathetic as that is).

Plenty of towns/parts of the city have no subway at all. I mean look at Milton AND they are right next to Mattapan and Dorchester. Oh the horror. Hasn't hurt sales there one bit.

I think HP's main problem is Cleary/Wolcott sq. There's no attractions other than Bacaro really (just had a nice write up in the globe) I mean there are places in HP, you just have to look...they arent as in your face as a nice cupcake shop, juice bar or starbucks which is apparently things people want to live right next to.

Right but then look at the prices of the homes. Big difference. Is a 650k house in WR really worth it to have close proximity to food as opposed to a nice house for 400k where you have to drive a bit further? and again there ARE places to eat in HP people. I guess it depends on what you are looking for. I would move to a place like hingham or milton before buying in WR. Maybe other people feel that they would just prefer to move to dedham or norwood before buying in HP.

I am equidistant to the YMCA in Cleary Sq. and the YMCA in W. rox.....
I walk to each. I have almost been in 6 fist fights with some questionable youth on my walk to the hyde park location. (making gun gestures, yelling, being general a**Holes) never a problem yet to w. rox.
Is that worth $250k more?
to some...yes

Right. It takes a lot to provoke a group of high school thugs trying to prove themselves in the pecking order. Thanks for the tip though.
