Hello at the moment i'm living ing texas and well i need a change i'm a 21yr old single male and i have a small dog and a gecko, i'm planning on packing up my car and moving up to boston. i don't know anyone there and i don't have a job lined up for me. i've been working alot of overtime at my current job to be able to pay for the trip and be able to get an apartment or something up there but was wondering if its a hard move. at the moment i've been working with MHMR for about a year so i figure i could use my experience to help me find a job in the same field. also the only expensises i have are my car and insurance and my cell phone. so any advice, maybe places near boston or in boston that are good to check out. thank you.

My first advise is that Boston is far more expensive than TX. You will likely need enough money for three months rent cuz most properties want 1st month, last moth, and security deposit. I looked on APts com and saw nothing less than 900/mth so bring 3K. Finding a place that accepts a dog is even harder so bring 4K.

Think twice. I just moved here from Dallas 2 months ago, and so far I hate it. I am counting the days until my husband's job is over. Just my personal opinion. I am not into the historical stuff like people here are.

If I were young and could go anywhere I wanted, this definately would not be on my short list. Why not go to California and enjoy the sun and surf? California loves dogs too. Just a suggestion....

Being 21 and single, I'd suggest doing the roommate thing at first. You'll save at least a few hundred a month (beer money!) and it's a great way to meet people. Allston is a young neighborhood, and there are always people looking for roommates.

Good luck and have fun.

I'm a Texan and I love it here. Bring a red heat lamp for your gecko in the winter (for the night)...it gets really cold! If you come here with the right attitude (and enough saved money, as someone else suggested), you will enjoy a complete change of scene, the intellectual exchange of ideas, and the opportunity to experience a beautiful life in New England. We can all move back to TX when we're old or run out of money! Go for it...you're young, single, and have absolutely nothing to lose!
PS: It actually is a hard move, in my opinion. So what? All of the things I count most valuable in my life did not come easy.
