I may be moving to the Boston area in a month or so. Will be working in Marlborough but want to be close enough to boston to hang out on weekends, especially clubs, restaurants, etc. Where would be a good fairly reasonable place to find an apartment?

I'm not too familiar with that area (I have family in Marlborough though, it's nice) but I will say that if you want to come to Boston to play, make sure you are close to the commuter rail. You do not want to drive into Boston on the weekends. Besides the traffic, you'll only have enough money for half a drink after the parking (+parking tickets haha. Freaking Boston. Gotta love it!) :-) That's my only suggestion. Good luck!

It depends on your definition of close enough . Can you deal with 1hr drive each way to work?

As a rule of thumb, the closer you're to Boston, the more expensive and small sq footage.

Marlborough, Hudson, Natick, Framingham, Waltham, Newton, Watertown...

I have not experienced much traffic driving into Boston on the weekends, and you can park at the garage under Boston Common for a flat rate of $10. It's $12 at Pi Alley on Washington St. The Pru garage is also $12 after 5PM (and before that if you park for less than 4 hours) with a $10 purchase at any of the shops there.

On Sunday you can often park on the street downtown near Federal St if you're willing to walk a bit, though this Sunday I got soaked in the rain because I did that.

Also Brighton. It's right on the Pike. Without traffic, maybe 40 mins to Marlboro. You'd avoid most of the traffic heading west on the Pike instead of inbound. I would not want to go to a club in Boston and have to get back to Natick on a regular basis, though if you stay sober Natick is a quick ride in the middle of the night.

Thanks. Sounds like not so bad a drive. What I really want is to have train/light rail to go into the city and then back home again. How late do the trains run on weekends?

Andy

Thanks. Will check out these areas. Looked at map and they seem to be the exact distance I want from downtown, etc.
