But yeah, Beantown is sweet.
In my 40+ years in Boston I have never experienced minus 30 wind chill.
You have to go to Northern New England for that.
Winters in Boston are relatively mild compared to the rest of the northern tier of our country.

agreed. -30 wind chill is a bit of an exaggeration. It will get that cold in northern Maine, northern Vermont, and in some parts of upstate NY. From my years in Boston, I remember the average overnight low being in the teens at night. Every once in a while, we would get a cold snap where the overnight low would be in the single digits.

"Boston has been freezing - literally - since Jan. 13, the last time the mercury rose above 32 degrees. And forecasters at the National Weather Service said tonight's lows were expected to hit zero with a wind chill factor of 30 to 40 below zero. This could turn into the worst extended cold snap in Boston in more than 100 years, the Weather Service said."

I could go on and on. Just Google Boston bitter cold or something like that. And this is just the EXTREME cold.

Another horrendous agony of the Northeast is when it's 19 degrees for like 2 or 3 weeks straight. Or when it gets to be March and the winter has been hard (started in October, e.g.) and you are soooooo tired of it and then it's 26 degrees for three straight weeks in March.

Then when you get 30 inches of snow, hell, compared to the cold, that's just a novelty.

Can't we just have one positive upbeat post instead of hammering on the weather? the people? Etc. It's New England, of course it gets cold. And besides, FD, maybe you'll love the cold. I certainly miss it. California weather isn't as great as it's chalked up to be. Summer 12 months a year gets way older than winter for less than half of a year.

Boston is one of the most sophisticated cities in the country. Second to NYC, it is the best. I love the four seasons, love the cold and the snow, all of it. Bring it on!

Not to sound bias...or like an elitest, but Boston IS the most sophisticated city in the country. NYC is just bigger, with more glitz

Heehee! We picked a great week to go to Disneyworld. I remember watching the news and laughing that we were in Orlando (where the weather was a lovely mid-70's). But eventually we had to go home and it was c-c-c-c-cold.
