Ok, so here is the deal. I've currently lived on the east side of Providence now for about a year and a half for my job in Smithfield RI. Cool fun area but I'd like to get back to boston permanately as I am there every weekend and my lease is done in a few months. My goal is to move in w/ my boyfriend (4 year relationship) who lives in Neponset and see my Boston friends more often. My question is, is the commute from Neponset to Smithfield realistic. I've done it a number of times but do you think its reasonable to do it every day? Its 45 mile each way. Its an easy 35-40 min drive reverse commute in the morning but evenings can take about an hr. Plus the gas and miles on my car ugh. I also have co-workers who have crazy commutes from Ayer, Somerville, Newton and Cohasset. so i guess its possible. What do you think?

Also, we could consider a different location, however he works in Wilmington MA and has a long commute through the city everyday.

thx

That's a hike, but given the location within Boston and the fact that (assuming you work normal, daytime hours) you'll be reverse commuting, it'll be easier than if you were commuting from Smithfield to work in Boston. It's really dependent on you... what do you consider to be too long of a commute?

If you don't mind an hour+ every day, then go for it. Traffic shouldn't be that terrible.

If you're at Fidelity, you just might be laid off soon at any rate and can come to Boston permanently!
