Is this a crappy area? I'm from NY, visit Boston often and am moving there in September. I've heard Allston can be sorta crappy, but only parts....I'm looking into this apartment building but don't want to waste my time if it's a bad area

Thanks!

Depends. Most college students don't have a problem living there! There are lots of bars and restaurants, but many people over the age of 21 would describe it as a student slum. Commuting via the Green Line in the morning during the academic year can be a nightmare, too. Larger apartment complexes in Allston have had issues with bed bugs in the past, so that is something to be wary of. What are you looking for in a neighborhood and what is your budget?

It's crappy if you mean near a lot of loud undergrads, but not as crappy as other parts of Allston that are uglier and more run down. The B line of the Green, which runs right in front, is something I tend to avoid. But other than going out to dinner or the occasional bar, I am now old enough that I tend to avoid Allston altogether.

The area is fine, not dangerous at all. It's mostly undergrad and grad students at BU, BC, and Harvard. There are also tons of Brazilian immigrants in the area, which is great because there are a few Brazilian BBQ places. There's a handful of old timers who live in Lower Allston and a pretty big housing project near Harvard Stadium (is it still there? or did they tear that down yet?)

Default what we want..

We are a 22 & 23 year old couple who are moving to Boston (my boyfriend lives there while attending BU now) after finishing school. We are looking for a 1-2 bedroom apartment that allows dogs, has hardwood floors, we'd love a dishwasher (who wouldn't?) and it has to be under $1400/month.

Any help would be great..thanks
