Ok! why kill the messenger!, well I found an ICU nursing job in Ann Arbor, Michigan by the way. Pay sucks!, Boston is $33 for new grads in a nursing home and Michigan ($27)- in a hospital. I will rather take less pay than stay in a nursing home ( pronoucing people dead). I will go and make some cheap money and will return when things gets better in Boston. Enjoy people! and don't kill me

$27 in Ann Arbor probably goes a lot further than $33 in Boston...so you'll most likely be doing better for yourself in Michigan, anyway.

NOT MICHIGAN!!!!! If you think the job market is bad in Boston, it is twice as bad here. It is so bad tha the government is actually putting a partial freeze on foreclosures to give families every chance to keep their homes. Not only businesses are cloosing but also schools and government offices. Te state of MI has to be one of the hardest hit during the recession. So please for your sake try another state for your job search. i would hate for you to spend money to get here in hopes of having a job and getting stuck like I did. I was on my way to the Boston area to find work when i got stuck in MI. I was only here visiting my sister for a few days. That was 3 1/2 months ago and I still haven't found a job. Not even McDonald's is hiring.

Well, this isn't a MI forum, but I believe the above poster is right. Michigan has the highest unemployment rate in the country, followed by RI. However, if you have a firm job offer then go for it. Best of luck.

Well, it sounds like people don't know too much about Ann Arbor here. As someone pointed out, the cost of living will be at least 20-30% cheaper in Ann Arbor. You're also not moving to an uncultured backwater. It's the home of freakin U of M, the best public university in the Midwest. Ann Arbor is a fun place to be. MI isn't doing well because of the auto industry, but Ann Arbor is about as recession proof as you'll get in the state, thanks to the University and the huge medical campus it runs.

well that's cool you did find a job and at least MI is cheaper to live in than MA (plus, it's not like you're moving to Detroit!).

clevedark, I'm not picking on the OP, I just don't like it when people assume that just because they graduate from X major (nursing is a very good example, childhood education is another) or graduate from Y college that jobs will just fall at their feet. the Op may have been joking when she said "I thought people would be throwing jobs at me" but there are people that think this way and soon come to realize the harsh truth

That's great. Too bad Boston didn't have something like that.

I think Cata is talking about Ann Arbor in relation to the rest of Michigan, not Boston.
