Whoa... no punctuation in that whole paragraph made it a hard read! Go easy on us. Some of us here are older and our eyes are failing. You have to help us out and make it easier for us to read your posts so that we can help you!

So, what is it you want exactly? A midrise or a highrise or a brownstone? And mear mass transit? And on $60k a year. That's what I think I got out of it. And you want to know what neighborhoods there are.

Boston has many mass transit options, as we have buses and a decent subway system here -- in fact, if you live in the city, better not to have a car because parking is quite expensive and quite difficult to find. We also have many big law firms -- so if you are thinking of remaining in the legal support profession, there would be a number of job opportunities here.

This is by no means a list of all the Boston neighborhoods, but:

Dorchester, Roxbury, and Mattapan are all neighborhoods around the city, and they are pretty inexpensive. Crime is high in these areas. They are just not really safe.

The Back Bay and Beacon Hill areas are in Boston proper but they are perhaps the most expensive. Beautiful, but probably no way could you do it on $60k.

The North End is a lot of fun; this is the Italian area of Boston. Great restaurants and good places to live. Expensive.

South End and South Boston are up and coming. Artsy. Irish. A mix of expensive and not so expensive. The area around the Broadway T station can have some good options for less expensive living in the city.

Allston and Brighton are not in Boston proper, but really are part of the city. The Green Line of the subway reaches out there, and there are buses as well. Inexpensive, full of students living off campus from BU. Not a beautiful area, but economical without being dangerous in the way that Roxbury and Dorchester are.

So, if you move here and you know you'll be making $60k, perhaps look in South Boston, Allston or Brighton -- I guess that's the gist of it. You can also look in Cambridge, a city next door that's also part of the subway system.

If you want NY style pizza, can't help you there. I've never gone looking for it in the city so I have no idea where it might be! We are not real big on NY here.

You should look into East Boston. It's relative inexpensive and has a vibrant international community.

I could never figure out what NY Style is. Is the oily Pizza Regina NY style? Is the description below correct?

"NY-style pizza has a crisp, stone-baked Neapolitan crust (as in from Naples, Italy), slices so large it’s de rigueur to fold them down the middle to eat, and a variety of authentic toppings adapted from the kitchens of Italian grandmothers everywhere"

In any case, most rental in Boston starts about $1000-$1500 for a 1 bedroom depending on the area, size and condition. Checkout craiglist or Boston.com for rental prices.

if you're moving from newark, nj then i don't think you'll have any problems living in any neighborhood in boston. the crime in the worst parts of boston is still pretty safe compared to what you see in some parts of newark. of course i don't want to steer you towards dorchester or roxbury, but that's where you'll find cheap rents and lots of ethnic diversity.
