My husband just took a job in Southborough. I work in Boston. We are considering living in Southborough (his job provides subsidized housing there). I would take the commuter rail from Southborough to Back Bay. Does anyone have experience with a commute like this? I am wondering whether the Southborough station parking lot fills up early in the morning (I would have to drive to the station), and how reliable the train is (generally on schedule or will I spend lots of time waiting in the cold?). Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Hi Romiek,

If you can get subsidized housing in Southboro, I'd go for it! It's a lovely town. Where in Southboro would you be living? (Just curious. We used to live in an amazing old mansion that was broken into apartments & is now owned by the Fay School.) If your husband's working for Fay or St Mark's that's a great area to live and close to the little downtown center.

The ride to Back Bay is less than an hour on the express train and you can almost always find a parking space at the Southboro lot unless there's a big snowstorm.

I've found the train to be pretty reliable. I remember once or twice the train was very late but usually it's good. (Which I can't say for some of the subway lines).

Best of luck with your move! And please feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the area. :-)
