Default Milton, Dedham, Stoughton, West Roxbury, Quincy or Brookline

I would suggest Milton ---it is a pretty nice area..near the Blue hills with quiet neighborhoods, it also has a good mix of culture. Yeah some parts are urban but there are also suburban parts as well
Plenty of Bus routes and such into the city as well

You could take Blue Hills PKWY to route 28 up to work

Dedham would be another option, you could just take Washington St. up all the way

Same with West Roxbury it would be a quick and easy commute via VFW pkwy or Centre st. to 203 at the Arborway Circle --and then up Washington st.

Stoughton is more suburban --
and convenient to the south shore and the city
you could take 24 to 128 and up 138
or take 138 up the whole way
then Cummins HWY and then
up Hyde Park Ave to Washington/Columbus

Norwood might be an option too
its a nice suburban community with commuter rail into Boston
For commuting you could take route 1 and veer off at Washington St

Needham is another nice suburban town
right on the highway and also easy access to Boston via Commuter rail
to get to your work area
you'd take High St. to Nahanton St. to Dedham St. and then quick L onto VFW and take VFW up to 203 , to Washington St.

Westwood or dover might work as well.

From Westwood which is also a quiet suburban community
you can take 109 High St. to Spring St. to West Roxbury and then
Centre St to 203 to Washington/Columbus

From Dover it would be Dedham St. - to 109 and the same route as Westwood

Quincy might be a good fit for you too if you'd like to be closer to the ocean
there's the red line into town and also bus routes
To get to work you could do Quincy Shore drive or 3A-Hancock st. or cut through the back roads to 203 West
aka Gallavin Blvd
Follow Gallavin Blvd 203 just before Dorchester Ave turn R onto
Becket St. (one way) then onto DOT Ave (Dorchester Ave)
follow DoT AVe (dorchester ave)
to Talbot
L on Talbot then R on Blue Hill Avenue (28)
Just past Franklin Park Zoo / Franklin Park - from 28N (blue hill ave)
turn L onto Seaver St. -(Seaver st is also route 28 north) to Washington/Columbus)

Newton Might be another option
Has some quiet suburban areas
commuter rail and Green Line service into Boston
To get to work you could take route 9 E to Hammond Pond parkway
to Newton St. to veer L onto Goddard Ave near the Larz Anderson park -and auto museum - in Brookline
follow goddard to Cottage/Perkins St.
Follow Perkins St past Jamaica Pond in JP (Jamaica Plain)
to which becomes Centre St. you'll come out at the Jackson Square "T" Station at Jackson Square in Roxbury, and turn R on route 28 South Columbus Ave. to Washington St.

The last option I'd give you is Brookline
easy access to the City via Green Line and Bus service
particularly nice areas around brookline village
Coolidge corner is nice as well and cleveland circle

Depending on where you are in Brookline you could follow the same directions I gave you for Newton or
if you're closer to the Eastern Side of Brookline or Northern Side near BU you could take Harvard St to Route 9 to the Jamaica Way South
then L on Perkins st which becomes Centre, and at Jackson Square you'd turn R (South on 28 Columbus Ave) to Washington
