I've expanded my search into South Boston and have found some apartment listings that appear good in the eastern region (close to the water). Is $1750 for a 2/1 apt with heat included reasonable for that area? Also - what is the commuting like from Southie to downtown? It looks like the west part of that neighborhood has better "T" access where the east part along the water is more bus-dependent? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

hi not sure about price, but if i had my way the water side would be best (are you familiar with the castle island area). It has a three maybe four mile waterfront walkway and is beautiful. You can see the planes land and take off at logan. You see the small to large ships entering boston harbor, it is quite nice!!

Thanks! One apartment complex that I talked with on the phone (Carson Tower?) said they were right across from Castle Island. It does sound like a nice area and I can get a 2br unit for less than a 1br in Back Bay or Beacon Hill.

Hi, i am not positive but i think carson tower is further down (near L street bath house? double check the address of carson tower with mapquest just to be sure...if it is across from castle island i would absolutely love it there..there is also a playground for the kids to play and most people either walk/bike ride, jog or roller blade around the area...you could walk to downtown boston 20-30 minutes (?) if you are a bike rider you could ride or take the bus...no need (i don't think) to go to the redline as there should be buses that would take you right into downtown...

I lived in South Boston for 9 years, and loved it. Living near the water is really nice, during every season. I used to walk all along there almost everyday, and it kept me in shape! Yes, it's much more accessable by bus, the nearest T stop is Broadway, and you'd need to take a bus to the t stop. The commute by bus downtown should be really reasonable by Boston standards.
