Really? On the 1000 or so times I did the trip, it usually took me 25 minutes to get from Mass Ave to MGH! I've seen jams from Jamaica Way to Bolyston St. Do you typically make that time? During rush hour?

Personally I would imagine myself being stuck in jams in Rozzie, then by Jamaica Pond, then Longwood, then Fenway, and then I only shudder to think what could happen on Storrow Drive!

Also given the choice I'd definitely prefer the option of public transit given it is such a viable option in BOS.

You should look at Melrose, the commuter rail goes to North Station and you can walk to MGH (they also have a shuttle bus). Also, the drive is pretty quick in the off-hours. You can get a small house in the low 300's if you look hard enough.

In case you are still looking, I will chime in to vote for Winthrop. Someone else mentioned East Boston and Revere--Winthrop is right between them, yet worlds apart in terms of the type of town and all it will offer a young couple (good restaurants, on the beach, super safe). It's a quick drive to MGH and there are some great deals on nice properties-- Good luck!
