The EZ ride shuttle is a good option, especially if you are working closer to Kendall Square, then it is about 10 minutes away from North Station. Some of the pharma companies even subsidize ridership so it is free for employees (you get a little sticker). If you want to take public transportation via the train then you could calculate the commute times from any time for the train from any town that has a train stop into North Station plus the shuttle times. However, the train plus shuttle does take longer than driving - for example, it takes about 45-50 minutes to commute by train/shuttle from Melrose but the drive is only about 30-40 minutes. But many pharma companies also subsidize mass transportation so the train could be a lot cheaper.
