I usually think of yuppies as young people with high incomes...spending enormous amounts of money everywhere.

It's always felt like more of a student town to me, but maybe that's because I've mostly known students and the recently graduated. I'm sure there are parts of Boston that could be considered yuppie, but those parts of town will generally distinguish themselves by being outrageously expensive (as opposed to just expensive).

As with most things, the number of yuppies you come across will depend on what you do and where you go. Stay away from yuppie activities and stores and you'll stay away from yuppies.

The 'yuppie' factor in Boston isn't as high as one would think. The only part of the city I would consider yuppie-ville are the downtown neighborhoods, such as the south end, north end, back back, and beacon hill.

The surrounding areas like Brighton, Cambridge, Somerville, and JP are predominately occupied by college kids, middle class families, hippies, and hipsters. All 4 areas are pretty culturally diverse as well. However, I wouldn't consider these yuppie areas.

Lower than DC, Manhattan, etc. but higher than just about anywhere else. If that makes sense?

That seems to generally be true for the sixties generation

These days though among the younger generations, most seem direct from colleges and VERY 'spending money' oriented.

Yuppie means Young Urban Professional. Given that definition, Boston is packed with that variety.

If you're wondering about uber-rich kids, yeah there's a lot of them too. They all go to Harvard/MIT/BU etc. When they graduate they often stay in town for five or ten years. Some keep a condo in BOS in addition to their pad in Dubai, London, or wherever.

Many of your standard fare yuppies graduate from college and stay to work in Boston legal, medical, technical, academic and research fields. Boston academia gets a lot of $ for endowment. That's how the C- characters like Bush Gore and Prince Abdulah all get into Harvard.
