For years, I had heard from a co-worker about a place in Cambridge that allows one to see amazing views of the city and surrounding areas. Does this sound familiar to anyone? This may be a place that is mentioned in a historical essay of some kind or it may have something to do with Harvard University. Sounds ridiculous, I know, but I am no longer able to ask the person who told me of this place and would like to find it on my own in his honor. I believe from this vantage point one can see amazing views - N, S, E and W. I know my friend went to some lengths to find this place so perhaps it would only be familiar to someone who knows Cambridge very well.

I assume you are referring to views of Cambridge? If you're talking about Boston, any good building along the Charles River should give you great views.

As for natural areas (rather than tall buildings) you might try the old mound over by Fresh Pond. It's built on a former landfill, but it really is a pleasant area these days--no trace of a former garbage dump. I remember the views of Cambridge being fairly expansive.

Yes, as I recall the location is in Cambridge and it provides expansive views of the surrounding towns. As I do more research about Cambridge, i am inclined to think that this location is indeed near Fresh Pond. Thanks!

Not sure, but it may be a hill in the Mt. Auburn Cemetary, which I heard is a lovely setting. It's very close to Fresh Pond Parkway. There may be a lookout tower?

There's definitely a great view from the tower in Mt. Auburn cemetery, but that is technically in Watertown.

Technically, since it's on the Watertown side of the town line, which runs across the cemetery. But the official address for Mt. Auburn is in Cambridge, so most people think of the whole thing as Cambridge. The Mt. Auburn tower was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the question.

I'm Inclined to agree that it's Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Incredible views from there.

Doesn't do it justice... but here you go, a view from Mt Auburn:

If you're looking for great views of Cambridge, Boston, Watertown, and Belmont with glimpses of other towns, I'd agree that the tower in Mt. Auburn Cemetery is the place to visit and now is probably the best time of the year to go.
