Hi guys, long shot here, but...

My friend is moving to Boston within a few weeks and does not know much about the city. She will be attending dentistry school there. Would you give a newcomer any tips (go there, avoid that, try that, etc.?)

She is in her early thirties, btw.

All help is much appreciated!

That's a pretty broad question. Depends on what she likes to do. I suggest picking up a Boston travel guide to get the basics about neighborhoods and local attractions.

If she's a fan of eating out and restaurants, a Zagat's dining guide is a huge help.

Also, many of the main streets have newspaper/magazine boxes with the Improper Bostonian, Stuff at Night and the Boston Phoenix. They are free and are the local entertainment guides. I believe they come out biweekly and are filled with info on everything from shopping to what's happening at the symphony and everything in-between.

Being a student is great because she'll automatically meet a lot of new people in a similar boat and schools often provide welcome packets and set up events to acclimate the new class.
