We originally come from the Crested Butte area and love the mountains and are now considering Frisco. Evergreen is very cool! I only know one family there and their only complaint is that they feel too isolated. (The golf course is incredible, too!)
What Colorado town do you refer to as "corn bread & hot sauce"? Because I love those and I despise the devil's spunk(mayonnaise).

Where's tortilla and salsa? Pita and tzatziki? Rye bread and mustard? Likely Boulder's whole wheat (organic) and tofu spread.

Isn't Frisco a lot less diversified than either Evergreen and Louisville? I've a friend who grew up in Evergreen. The two subdivisions we saw and in which we took pictures of Evergreen, she had very negative things to say about - either richer, divorced men with kids in massive McMansions or spiteful older retirees that hated kids bicycling the in neighborhood. I had to laugh, since these were the areas we thought might be worth investigating. To each his own.

RE: Your concern about Evergreen and being a mixed-race family:
Evergreen does have some diversity and also very friendly Asians there. There is a Vietnamese restaurant on one of the side streets downtown, and the owner, who is Vietnamese, is very friendly and knows all the Asians in the area---he could be helpful for you. Also there is a Himalayan restaurant we've eaten at in Bergen Park, and we often see Asians eating there---also a Tibetan community is there. There is a newish Mexican restaurant run by a Hispanic family. There are at least two families I know of from Argentina living there. Evergreen is known as a very tolerant and friendly place to live--so be sure to check it out more thoroughly.

Hi - I came across this post and was wondering if you ever made the move and if so where? My family may have to make a move for my husbands job in the Boulder/denver area and are flexible since my husband will be working from home. We currently live in Laguna Beach - an amazing community and I am nervous about pulling my new Kindergartener from this wonderful school district where almost every parent seems to be involved and has very high standards (we had organic apples delivered to our door as a welcome from the PTA!!) However, we are no strangers to CO and can see how nice life could be there. We are looking for a town that has a strong sense of community and a good ratio for cost of living, since I will no longer be working (traditionally) when we get there. And being from the East Coast my daughter misses the snow. What is most important to me is community and a clean, safe environment. I dislike the cheaply constructed, yet expensive, planned homes and could not see myself buying one, but a town with more history and older well crafted homes. Would love the feedback!!

For those who might not know, Laguna Beach is a very exclusive, expensive small city between San Diego and Los Angeles, on the coast. FYI, for reference. Obviously there are several wonderful communities in Colorado and along the front range to choose from.

I am surprised you did not look in the Niwot area between Boulder and Longmont. A bit more land and a nice smaller downtown area. Easy access to Louisville, Boulder and beyond, country feel and good schools too.
