My husband & I (and our sweet dog Niko) are planning a move to the Boulder or Fort Collins area.

Are there any off-leash friendly trails with some elevation gain within 10 min of Old Town Longmont? We are pretty spoiled down here in Santa Fe, but need to be in a less touristy town near the mountains.

Thanks!

The city of Boulder allows dogs off leash on some trails. You'll need to get a "greenie" tag prior to taking your dog off leash. Here's the city's dog/trail page:

OSMP Dog Regulations by Area

I don't think that Boulder County has any off-leash trails. I don't know about city of Longmont's off leash policy.

Thank you! I did browse the forum & found posts about the green tags, but they seem relevant only to the trails just outside of Boulder.

And for other folks: I do know all about the off-leash dog parks in Longmont. Just interested in the trails.

You're welcome. Unfortunately, I think you may need to head closer to Boulder for off-leash. IIRC, the trail around the Boulder res and Coot lake is off leash. It's not close to the mountains, but if you dog likes to swim, it's a winner.

Aah...that does seem to be the case, from the further research I did today. Doggie isn't much of a swimmer, but I do like hiking near water.

Thanks!

To get any elevation gain, you have to go farther than 10 minutes from old town Longmont. More of a 20 minute drive to Boulder or Lyons.

Thank you! That's what we were guessing from the maps.

Wishful thinking!
