We are considering a move to the Boulder Co area in July .I have secured a job in a Cherry Creek and my husband will stay home with our sons 13 and 10 thru the first few months of the transition. We are aware that the timing for our children may not be perfect but we hope to offer them a better quality of life .
We have researched both layafette and louisville and like both. We currently live in a pretty affluent Chicago
Northshore suburb and feel overwhelmed with the keeping up lifestyle and the awful winters however schools are excellent and the summers wonderful. We are a mixed race couple of Irish / philippine decent in our 40's
My husband is a avid triathlete and loves Colorado and the sunshine.i love the outdoors, great food , sunshine and a more layed back lifestyle. We will rent for a year and then buy .
We were hoping for some feedback on the areas we have narrowed down , sense of community and possibly
input from a couple who moved with kids the same age .How did the kids settle , school environment etc .
I appreciate any feedback. Thanks

It sounds like a perfect fit for your family, assuming your job is secure and your husband will be able to find work with his skill set. Louisville and Lafayette both fit the bill; I personally think Louisville feels a little more 'community-ish', but Lafayette has great options, too. Have you checked out GreatSchools - Public and Private School Ratings, Reviews and Parent Community for school ratings and reviews?

Though you will rent for a year, I understand that you would want to rent in the same area you plan to stay, as far as school transition goes. On that note, kids are flexible and the towns you mentioned, while having some affluence, are not on the level of larger metro area 'keep up with the jonses' mentality. My experience is that there's enough down to earth in these cities that your kids would do just fine. CO has a pragmatic feel to it, [midwestern plains meets the mountain pioneering spirit] and this translates into the lifestyle and people. Sure, there's some suburbia mcmansion to the newer areas/developments, but it doesn't completely overshadow the other, positive attributes for which you are moving to CO. IMHO, of course.

Have you searched this forum for past threads on these cities? Ex:

Also, have you checked out this sticky with indexed threads, located at the top of the CO forum page?

Just to help clarify, Cherry Creek can mean a whole bunch of different areas here - a Denver neighborhood, a school district, an actual creek, a state park, etc. More info on the job location would help...

Boulder County to "Cherry Creek" is not a commute that I would want to do.
