BOULDER IS NOT A DUMP. Not nearly as many bums as Denver and litter is routinely cleaned up. Have you ever been to boulder? When was the last time?

Little late to join this thread, but: What can I expect to pay for an apartment in Boulder? Are there a lot of houses available for rent? Cheapest yet livable?

Anna: Have you tried googling: boulder colorado rentals to see what comes back, i.e., a list of websites like realtor.com, rent.com, rentals.com and many more? Let us know how that turns out for you. Best wishes to you on Christmas.

Default Aah, guess I'll bite on this one.

Lived in Boulder from 1990-2007. Small studio apt = $525-650 +- 1bdrm apt=$680-950+- 2bdrm apt=$900-1,400+- These figures do not include real high-end apts which would rent for even higher amounts. In general, Boulder suffers a shortage of decent apartments, although there are plenty of nicer much more expensive apartments (Boulder truly is quite an affluent community, many people there are wealthy, come from wealth). The above figures do include recent rent increases, apt rents were about $60 less in 2006.

Ok, houses. Plenty of houses for rent. Many are shabby and not well maintained by the landlords, also many houses for rent are routinely trashed by the local college students. House rents have increased measurably since the late '90's. A small 3-bdrm house might rent for $1,600 - 2,000. Figure about five or six hundred per person per bedroom for house renting. Hardwood floor, etc. well-maintained houses will go for even higher. There are lucky deals to be had here and there below these prices. Also, rents are slightly lower in surrounding close-by communities, although not enough to make it worthwhile IMHO.

Having moved to Boulder three years ago I can attest to the fact that Boulder today is certainly not the Boulder of the 60s. In my neighborhood, hardly anyone recycles and once neighbors move in you virtually never see them again. I have never been in a place where I don't know a single neighbor, at least to the point of actually talking to them. And the drivers... don't get me started. I have a theory that you can tell a lot about a place by the way people drive. They must teach tailgating in high school drivers ed.

Boulder is now and moving toward becoming a city for rich people, that by nature are snobby. I can't put it more simply. Of course there are many nice people too. I do a lot of volunteer work and the people I meet in that capacity are quite nice and giving.

In my neighborhood two 7,000 sq.ft. homes were destroyed (nothing was recycled) to make way for 9500 sq. ft. homes. And these homes are not being built for families with a lot of children.

For the past three Haloweens I have not had ONE trick or treater as there are no kids where I live (Gunbarrel).

If I had to do it over again I wouldn't move to Boulder and things are only going to get worse. Once you have a place where only rich people can exist, that isn't a place where I want to be.
