A friend of mine in his mid 50s has lived in Boulder for 14 years. He is a fitness trainer who makes approx. $2000 monthly and he owns ( pays mortgage ) on his own condo. When not training clients, he's usually out hiking, climbing, or biking. No stuffy tech cubicle for him! Says he wouldn't live any other place on the planet. Boulder has it all for him, and he does it on 2K a month.
But 14 years ago, real estate prices were quite a bit lower in Boulder.

Of course real estate prices were lower. However, they were at that time still comparatively very high to other places around this area. Wages were less and mortgage interest rates were higher, so it was still difficult to afford a home in Boulder. Maybe not as much of a problem as today but most of the people who are seeking to buy today in Boulder are in the upper economic tier and make much more money. The change is that now it has driven out much of the middle class.

That is not the point anyways--the point of the discussion is that some people do find a way to live on less in Boulder.

I think that we need to recognize that "Boulder" isn't just the city limits; it's more like a region.

Someone mentioned it's better to work in Boulder and live 15 minutes away. Well, technically, you don't live in Boulder, but, in a manner of speaking, you do. You're part of the greater Boulder community..

Just mincing words here..
