Personally, I think that as a single person with no kids you'd be just fine in Boulder on 80K. You can find a one bedroom for close to $1,300 -- the $1,500-2,000 estimate stated above is high. A two bedroom will run about $2,000. If you are willing to have a roommate, that will put you closer to $1,000 in rent. Unless you have an extravagant lifestyle, $80 is perfectly sufficient even with a car payment and some school loan debt.

This is a 15-minute bike ride from downtown:

Thanks again, are there any areas of Boulder that would be away from all of the college students? Maybe close to hiking and biking trails?

"You can find a one bedroom for close to $1,300 -- the $1,500-2,000 estimate stated above is high" - not in the area he stated he would like to live.

There are many areas where college students typically do not live.
Have you looked at a map of Boulder? Some areas where you don't want to live are "The Hill", the Goss-Grove neighborhood and the area directly east of campus. Those are mostly student residential areas close to the University within walking or biking distance.

Yes, there are neighborhoods where you won't find many college students. There are more of these areas in North Boulder and South Boulder, away from campus. I would think those areas would be more affordable as well, as it's not as close to everything. Luckily, Boulder has an awesome bike path system which you can get most places on. You could definitely bike or walk to downtown/pearl st. or hiking trailheads on these paths.
