Just another 'the grass is always greener' perspective. Unfortunately, when they move there will be a new set of issues for them to complain about.

Both of these people wanted the community to provide affordable housing at a level that would allow them to live in Boulder while working part time jobs. They're nice people and I will miss them, but that's not realistic.

I moved from Boulder 8 years ago and couldn't be happier. There is plenty to complain about living in Boulder. Boulder was cool 50 years ago, not so much today. And anyone that has to defend where they live is slightly strange.

Where does the article say they expected to live there with part-time jobs?

In fact, the 2 people mentioned in the article said they were leaving not because they could not afford to stay, but because they were weary of the lack of progress on affordable housing.

I have visited friends who live in Boulder. Even though I could afford to live there if I so desired, I have no interest in the faux liberalism. I can understand where the people in the article are coming from.

From the article:

Quote:
They could stay, they admit, if they took higher-paying jobs and sacrificed some of their time now dedicated to advocacy efforts.
Also, I know both of the people in the article. They're both great people who want to follow their passions and not be a slave to a job in order to pay $2k a month for an apartment. Totally understand, but it's not realistic to think that Boulder would be affordable enough to make that work.

I didn’t have any pop ups. I think you can eliminate those with preferences on your device.

My spouse managed a kayak shop in Boulder back in the early 90's and lived in Nederland. The buzz was that people couldn't afford it and were leaving back then too. Lots of outdoorsy local legends (ie climbers, skiers etc) felt jaded and went to other mountain places to launch various outfits and product lines saying it was too hard to do in Boulder. It's golden era was over. I think the yuppies were said to be the problem back then and my spouse seemed to know a lot of trust fund kids during his time there. It's been a Mecca for the wealthy for awhile now seems like.

In fact, I think the cabin he lived in up there was on the property of the people who owned the kayak shop who were trust funders. I'll have to ask him but I'm pretty sure that's what it was.

"Let (Boulder) become Palo Alto — a sterile, horrible place filled with old grumpy hippies and bro-grammers. Go make other cities great."

How sad that it’s come to that. But he’s not wrong. Google coming in was a big nail in the coffin.
