My girlfriend and I (mid 20s) are looking to move out to Denver / Boulder area before the end of Jan. I will be working in downtown Boulder. I'm looking to get some recommendations on where to look for an apartment to rent. We would prefer to live in an urban neighborhood (walk to coffee shops, bars, restaurants). We really like LoDo, but that may be too far of a commute for me everyday. The other consideration is that we have an 80 lb Labrador Retriever and we'd love to have some sort of park nearby so that he can run around. Looking to stay in the $900-$1100 / month range. Any suggestions?

If you are looking for newer "urban" vs old, and nearer Boulder, take a look at these 2 areas
Bradburn Village | Home
Arista

Arista would have the advantage of being directly on RTD bus line to Boulder

No idea what their pet policy is.

the commute denver/bldr by bus is not that bad. I used to do it in the 80s from Capitol Hill. There are plenty of express buses that go basically non-stop from denver to bldr. You can catch the express buses at Union Station. and you can spend the bus ride (both ways) getting all your paperwork out of the way, so you don't have to work when you get home.

If you really do want something in LoDo, and you fit the income guidelines, there ARE units in LoDo where the rent is based on income. I didn't know that till just this past week when i talked with a guy at a party who was paying $600/month for an average sized LoDo 1-bdrm. (However, based on some things he said, I suspect he was actually in the BallPark district.) Sorry, but i don't know how to find out about those units.

An 80-lb dog might be a problem for securing an apt, but if you do find a place in LoDo, there's that huge park along the Platte. I see plenty of large dogs there, even during the day.

Hope this helps.

As far as the dog goes, you might have more luck with private landlords than with apt. complexes. My DD found an apt. that allowed a lab by drivng around looking for "for rent" signs.
