Forget about the Mayweather fight. Pacman and Floyd can't come to terms so we move on. Pacman looking to fight Margarito now. I think this is an easy fight for Manny because Margarito takes a lot of shots, is easy to hit, and not that fast. This fight will probably end faster than Mosley-Margarito.

Curious why Pacman didn't seek out Mosley, since Floyd beat him and he annihilated Margarito. Aside from defensive-minded journeyman Clottey, Manny hasn't fought top black fighters either. What gives? Mosley makes more sense than Margarito IMO. Maybe Mosley didn't want the fight.

The reason this fight is being made is because both Manny and Margarito are under contract with Arum (so is Cotto), so making a fight with any of the three is a win-win for Arum, regardless of who wins, he has the title holder in his stabile. Margarito doesn't like getting hit to the body, and Manny is a vicious body puncher. I think Manny wins by late round TKO.

I would rather have seen a rematch between Cotto/Margarito, sans the loaded gloves, to determine who is really the better of the two.

Mosley doesn't deserve to fight Pacquiao

Its because they are both Arum's boys. Margarito is tailor made for for Manny. It'll be over quickly. They really should have made the fight with Mosley, Berto or Williams (providing he can get back down to 147). Mosley wanted the fight. Williams REALLY wanted the fight. But because Arum wants to keep it "in house", its going to be Margarito.

I lost a lot of respect for Manny. He's only fought two Americans (Oscar Delahoya and David Diaz). He's totally avoided the black American fighters and Im really getting suspicious about that.

This fight is pathetic. Arum is already set for life financially, why not go after the best fights? It is unfortunate that the best matchup fell through, hopefully we can see Mayweather/Pacquiao sometime next year. However, there are still other decent fights out there for Manny. Williams, Mosley, Bradley, or Berto would all probably be better fights than Pacquiao/Margarito. I also agree with Coolhand68, I would love to see a Cotto/Margarito rematch. Its too bad we're not going to see the best fights anytime soon.

I really don't think Manny has avoided the black American fighters. There weren't all that many in his weight class for much of his career. His last fight was against Clotty, not an American, but still a dangerous opponent. His camp tried to make a fight with Floyd, but Floyd doesn't want any part of him. Aside from that who is out there? Mosley, Berto, Bradley, Williams, Judah? Mosley wouldn't stand a chance, Berto doesn't even want to fight Mosley, Bradley doesn't have enough experience or skill, Williams could be a good fight but he's moved up in weight, and Judah would be ok the first half of the fight, but couldn't last the second half. What does that leave?

Part of the problem is that these elite champions get to handpick their opponents, Manny included. This needs to stop. We can't allow promoters and fighters to dictate who mandatory challengers are going to be. We need to go back to one belt per weight class, that's the only way the best will continue to fight the best.

This will not be a walk in the park. I know, he use to pad his hands with plaster but he still has heart. There is nothing more motivating than being hungry. He was embarrassed, shamed and shunned by everyone, as he should, so he probably feels that this will be his last chance. My gut feeling is that this will be a good fight.

Antonio Margarito licensed in Texas

Quote:
Former welterweight titlist Antonio Margarito was licensed to box by Texas regulators on Thursday, paving the way for him to meet pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao for a vacant junior middleweight belt.

Margarito's application for a license in Texas was approved despite California denying him a license on a 5-1 vote earlier this month. Margarito's license was revoked in the wake of his January 2009 knockout loss to Shane Mosley in which Margarito's hand wraps were found to be illegal before the fight.

Manny Pacquiao (http://www.mannypacquiaofan.com/ - broken link) definitely will win. And he should retire after that to focus in his politics.
