Floyd Patterson was one of my top three favorite fighters. He was dedicated to the sport. Unlike the ignorant, loudmouth era that Ali initiated, this man was articulate, humble, intelligent, and respectful. His kind is greatly missed in not only Boxing, but in all sports today. Floyd epitomizes the spirit of the Sweet Science was the type of man greatly missed today.

Nice thread. I agree, Patterson is right up there with Joe Louis as one of the classiest fighters in the sport of boxing, or athlete of any sport. A distant memory from some of the clowns we've got representing the sport today.

I agree. You also raise some good points about modern athletes. Ali was original but now everyone thinks they have to show off as Ali did and try to top the others. You see it in every sport.

Default Patterson special, but so was Ali

Of course, there's this side of Ali (student of Boxing) that makes him special. Here he is with the great Cus D'Amato, talking styles, strategy against Joe Frazier, and the effect of Ali's layoff. D'Amato was a great Boxing mind and a fine judge of character. He really called this one (Ali-Frazier I). I don't mean to downgrade Ali here. Classic video.
