Malinaggi doesn't have much power and can only circle to his left. On paper, a guy with good movement and boxing skills should give Broner trouble; however, Malinaggi has neither.
Malinaggi doesn't have punching power either, so I suspect Broner will walk him down and stop him late, if he doesn't catch him with something big early.
I pretty much see it the way you're seeing it. Although I think that Malignaggi has more boxing skill than you're giving him credit for. His problem is going to be that although he can box he has nothing in his tool bag that is better than what Broner will be bringing into the ring with the exception of professional experience.
Broner is probably going into the fight thinking that Malignaggi has little chance of hurting him with one punch. For this reason I think that Broner probably won't wait very long to start throwing some power shots. Malignaggi does like to move around a lot, so Broner may try to work the body early in order to slow him down. If Malignaggi's footwork slows down it'll be BOMBS AWAY!
I'm just hoping beyond hope that Broner will tone down the clown act on the way to the ring but I know that's just wishful thinking on my part. Either way I don't think that Malignaggi will present too many problems for Broner once the bell rings.
As for who Broner should fight next, I'm not sure what he plans to do in the event he takes the belt from Malignaggi. My guess is that he's staying out of lightweight for good and would most likely go down to junior welterweight rather than stay at welterweight just to keep the belt. If he does move down he will have plenty of fighters to choose from. I'd personally like to see him test his skills against Zab Judah or maybe convince Khan to come back to 140 for a fight before challenging for a junior welterweight title.
After all of that talk, Broner is stepping up in class. Malig is a great boxer with a nice chin but with light featherweight power. I agree that Broner will walk through Malig punches. To win, Malig will have to stay on his bicycle. At the same time, Broner has not fought anyone significantly so lets see what happens when he gets a little resistance. In the end, I think Broner will win.
Yeah Paulie is more skilled than the op is giving him credit for. He's definitely going to touch Broner and maybe even frustrate him a bit. The problem is his lack of punching power. I like Broner's ability, but he wants to be like Floyd a little too much, a little too soon. If he can knockout Paulie, that'll be the first step in him establishing some credibility. Paulie needs to flood him with activity and take him into the latter rounds and see if Broner's stamina and conditioning can hold up. That's what I'm most curious to see because I have done doubts. They both like to be clowns in the ring so it should be entertaining on some level at least.
Paulie has decent boxing skills, but he likes to fight with his hands at his sides too often. You can't do that with Broner, he's too quick and he's a good finisher. I see Broner winning this by UD with superior counter punching. Paulie doesn't have enough power to keep Broner from coming forward and timing him.
Well, it was an entertaining fight. It went down just as all of us figured it would with Paulie throwing flurries but unable to stop Broner from walking him down. Broner showed that he can definitely be hit and frustrated. It will be interesting to see how he does against some of the more seasoned and harder punching welterweights. On a darker note, its too bad he's such a classless toolbag.
Yep, Broner is a D-Bag. A talented D-Bag, but a D-Bag nonetheless. Just not a fan of some of his antics, he's just trying too hard to be noticeable. His skills can do the talking.
Of course, Paulie couldn't hit Broner with anything to deter him. I still wonder about Broner's conditioning though. He essentially took ~the first three rounds or so off which is just weird. I wonder if that's a coping mechanism to ensure that he can last 12 rounds if need be. It'll be interesting to see what happens when an activity fighter who who can punch jumps on him from the opening bell and make him fight three minutes of every round.
Paulie is all heart. Even though he can be a bit of a clown too, I find him generally likable. It's just too bad that pretty much every time he steps into the ring, he's outgunned. He's a pretty good commentator though. I think that's his future and he needs that future to be sooner rather than later IMO.
Too much trash talking. He sounds like a cornball ignoramus and significantly brings down the dignity of the sport. I've never been a Malinaggi fan, but I was hoping he would pull this one out. Broner embarrassing to listen to. He's got a long way to go before he can be considered a great fighter, and I'm hoping he gets his arse kicked sooner than later.
He sounds like a wanna be Chris Tucker. Shameful, his presence in the sport.
