I would add to these criticisms that I think Pay Per View has also hurt boxing as it limits the number of people exposed to the major bouts. I am old enough to remember when a heavyweight match with Ali or Foreman was a major sports broadcasting event watched by many people, even if they weren't big followers of boxing. Now only the true fans watch on pay per view to see a bout that may or may not go past the first round but still cost a lot to purchase for viewing.
Major heavyweight championship bouts should be broadcast on ESPN or the networks where a wide audience can see them.
