Im a big fan of the UFC and mixed martial arts but it will never replace boxing. Never. Sure they'll get some decent PPV numbers but I dont think they will ever really compete with boxing for the following reasons:

1. Grappling is boring. When the fight goes to the ground it really gets boring from a casual viewers perspective. If you're lucky, you'll get to see some GNP but for the most part, its just boring and no where near as exciting as boxing.

2. MMA core fan base. The "core" fan base of MMA is lower-middle class midwestern heavily tattoo'd white guys who either lack education or skills for real job who based on their "street fights" think they can strike it rich in MMA. If you've viewed any of the "Ultimate Fighter" TV shows on Spike you will know what I mean (cursing, drinking, destruction of property, etc.). They also favor fighters with similar background to theirs but unfortunately, I think "the look" of MMA will become very similar to boxing (i.e., dominated by Hispanic and Black champions). There was a HUGE fight this past weekend between Anderson Silva (black guy from Brazil) and Dan Henderson (white guy from USA). Silva dominated Henderson and forced him to quit in round 2 but there was hardly any mention about the fight in the MMA Forums. I wonder why?

Back to the topic of this thread. I would watch a Tyson vs. Holyfield fight but only if its on free tv. No way would I pay PPV to see it.

holyfield and tyson had some real good fights in the early 90's but to have them fight again at this point is a joke.i will not pay to watch these 2,i mean both of them have looked horrible in the last 5 years when they've had a fight.boxing is really struggling right now it's like there's no raw talent right now or a big attraction.they have to keep bringing in has beens and people just aren't paying to watch them.i am a big trinidad fan and did pay to watch his last fight but believe he is out of shape and his best days are behind him.but tyson and holyfield is a joke those 2 are really old.
