The De la Hoya/Mayweather fight generated about $120M in PPV revenue alone. I wouldn't say PPV is hurting boxing by any means.
I'm not talking about revenue; I mean in terms of public interest. That was the most viewed ever (PPV), the best they can produce. The number of viewers was about 2 million. Baseball has suffered from diminished interest in recent years, yet game one of the last World Series got 16 milliion viewers. I would guess that the average person on the street couldn't name more than three of the current top boxers, if that many.
I haven't cared about Klitschko fight in probably three years. I try to watch him, but I usually just end up fast forwarding until a see someone on the floor or someone's hand raised in the center of the ring.
what do you all think of wladimir klitschko vs alexander povetkin?
I think povetkin is just another fighter who will be unable to maneuver around the very mechanical klitschko. Klitschko will throw out that jab, while keeping that right cocked to keep his opponent at bay, jab, jab, jab, then occasionally lay that right hand in there. So robotic and quite pathetic.
I don't see this fight going the distance with klitschko finally landing that right. Another robotic performance against an overmatched opponent.
Thats why you see the Klitchkos boxing on free tv and many of the Latino boxers on PPV.
