We are considering moving to Bozeman and are coming for a visit in March next year. My husband and I both have Internet based businesses that allow us to work from anywhere but we need reliable, preferably fast Internet connections.

Where we currently live in rural Australia we have very poor speeds fluctuating between 1mbs to 4mbs. I have heard that in the US people can get speeds up to 30mbs which would be heaven but I don't know if that would apply to the country.

Can someone give me the lowdown on Bozeman regarding this. A rough idea of prices would be great too though speed is more important.

Internet in Montana | Qwest/CenturyLink High Speed Internet in MT

Bresnan Communications is Now Optimum › Optimum West

Centurylink is a land-line phone company that provides internet service, previously named Qwest.
It is the one I use for wireless internet. It was the most economical choice for me.

Optimum used to be called Bresnan, and is a cable television company that provides internet service and phone service. You can bundle cable tv service with internet service.

There are others, but these are the two main large companies that have had reliable service in the area.

It really depends on where your home is located... too far outside of a town, and it is harder to get service choices.

Hope that helps.

I wondered if there have been any changes to this since last November? I too work from home and currently am used to 55+ mbps over fiberoptic networking. Though I am guessing Verizon Fios hasn't made it to Bozeman yet, I would be willing to restrict looking in the right neighborhoods/areas to be sure I could keep up with my job

If you are a Verizon customer, CenturyLink gives you a big discount on internet service.

Default Century Link is awful

I also work from home and have had Century Link since we moved here in August 2011. Their service is EXTREMELY spotty and will go out for 30-60 seconds at a time on and off throughout the day, especially before 8:00 AM and after 10:00 PM. We've called them and they weren't able to do anything about it. We're moving next month and are definitley going to switch ISPs

Default Optimum in Bozeman.

We have a bundled cable modem through Optimum. I just checked and my wireless connection is at 54 Mbps. Service is very good-I cannot recall the last time we lost our internet connection.

I just checked my speed and it is 54 MBPS. I am not tied to cable, nor am I tied to a phone line. I have a MIFI device and I get those speeds no matter where I am at, as long as I have a cell signal. I live in the country. I have traveled with this device and even with 1 bar of service, I get that speed.

It is through Verizon and runs $49.95 a month. So if Bozeman has Verizon towers, it would work there too. It powers up to 5 devices at once with WIFI.

I have Optimum and it sucks. They seem to cap my speed during peek evening hours to the point where I can't even stream videos. That said, I've dealt with CenturyLink and they're even worse.

Not my experience at all-I stream Netflix with my wireless all the time during the pm-works great-you should give them a call. Maybe a difference between Big Sky and Bozeman perhaps??

Perhaps. I don't know the details of cable internet but I do know that the number of people in your neighborhood who are using it affects the speed.
