Hey all,

Please my wife and I are registered Nurses in the province of Alberta and we are thinking of moving to the States preferably Florida. We have 4 kids of school age and we are wondering the necessary steps to take to secure a job? We are all Canadian citizens.

Thanks all!

My recommendation would be to make an appointment with your local American Consulate or immigration attorney. They can cite chapter and verse everything you'll need to do. My understanding is you'll need an "employer sponsor", but I do not have all the details

Get a job as a travel nurse, they will sponsor you and get you in the door. They can also provide insurance/housing for you until you get a feel for living and working here. Just keep in mind you might have to look further south or near Orlando for work since you are looking for two nurse jobs.

This is true. Another thing to consider (after having talked to a couple of U.S. nurses in a local watering hole who were considering moving here and had looked into it) is that, at least here inf FL, often times traveling nurses are called on during labor disputes... and are considered scabs.

100% accurate? I don't know. Just something to think about or research.

FL is a right to work state. I doubt anyone cares

Probably so. I was just passing along what the two nursing professionals related to me.

Thanks for the hint, so helpful. Do we need to take the NCLEX before we could secure jib as travel nurses?

Thanks again!

My brother is a nurse and graduated last year with a BSN... in order to work in FL u must have have passed the NCLEX as well as the "HESI" (spelling?)... it's a pretty tough market out there as US nursing schools are pumping out nurses like a mill...
good luck!
