Can a certified Roofer tell me if it is acceptable to tile over a torch down rolled asphalt flat roof? If so, what are the acceptable ways it can be done.

are you talking about putting new barrel tile shingles on top of asphalt shingles?

No, plain porcelain tiles grouted over the asphalt on a flat roof.(For an Exterior deck) Can you do that in Florida? Won;'t temp variations cause cracking and the asphalt to shrink and crack etc.?

Thinking of typical European tile roofs, the structure is:

Roof joists

roofing felt (not gritted)

battens

tiles.

The tiles are interlocking (which helps hold them in place) but the battens also provide support for the tiles.

If you were to lay tiles on top of flat asphalt (without battening) you would lose that support.

I was amused when I first saw pantiles on roofs in Florida.

I bet they make pretty impressive projectiles when they come off in a hurricane. Being hit by a felt and asphalt shingle might hurt, but being hit by 5 or 6 pounds of ceramic tile doing 100mph could be spectacular.
