A group of female friends (age range 40s-60s) is planning a weeklong trip in March. We're open to exact location but are looking for someplace peaceful--no wild spring break crowds. We like walking the beach, birding, botanizing, and good food, so a town with a farmers market or something similar would be nice.

Recommendations?

Satellite Beach would be a good option for you. It's quiet and has a nice beach as well as plenty of nature.
There is an excellent food coop in town as well as a farmers market every Friday.

I'll throw this your way....You may want to try Sebastian Inlet as well. Very peacful with lots of natural scenery, beach, boardwalk, wading pool, and a long pier as well. Not sure if any farmers markets in that area, but there is two or three museums in that exact area.

Anyways, have a blast wherever you go!

Wanting a farmers market? Are you planning on renting a house or condo for a week so you can cook? Not every area allows that so that will be a determining factor in which town .

All of the Brevard County beaches are pretty quiet and laid back compared to Daytona except maybe Cocoa Beach for spring break. You can walk for miles on weekdays and not see anyone. BEACH & LAKE SWIMMING: Brevard County Parks and Recreation, Florida

Will you have a car? I agree Sebastian Inlet is a great park to visit for a day. While down in the Vero Beach area.....Golden Sands is another great park. In Cocoa Beach I recommend Lori Wilson Park. It will be busier on the weekend but if you stick around till 5 PM on a sunday you can watch the cruise ships go by.

Beach at Canova Patrk is beautiful rocky beach at low tide. Not a great place to swim but great place to walk. Farther south from Cocoa Beach you usually will find better shells to pick up.

In Cape Canaveral there is a great vacation getaway, Royal Mansions Resort. All the units are privately owned full condominiums. It is close to Cocoa Beach that has a farmers market on the weekends and also close to the Sunseed Co-op which offers organically grown vegetables and fruit. Royal Mansions Resort is right on the beach; about a mile south of Jetty Park and two miles to the Cocoa Beach Pier. It's in a quiet residential area however still close to restaurants in Port Canaveral and shopping in the area.
