Howdy - coming down for a family visit; lived in Cocoa decades ago. Want to hit the best barbecue joint in the county, also the best seafood, and any other "bests" that y'all can recommend.

Will drive for food, good food, that is.

Thanks for any and all tips!

Cocoa village and downtown Melbourne are both good clusters for restaurants.

Thanks, chopchop, I hail from the days when all Cocoa Village had in it was the Barnett Bank and a rundown hardware store. I have watched its revival with pleasure. Recommendations of any particular places would be great.

Cafe Margaux in Cocoa Village

Firehouse, Continental Flambe and Matt's Casbah in downtown melbourne.

There's also several casual seafood places around the area (Grills, Squid Lips, Shells to name a few)

Back when I lived in Daytona I used to love driving down to Titusville for Dixie Crossroads. Excellent Southern-style seafood.

I'll second Matts as excellent although if you're looking for southern style seafood which I'm assuming is mainly fried it probably won't excite you. I ate there last night and the uni shots were crazy good. For fried everything ala Dixie Crossroads try Florida Seafood right past the last bridge on the 520 causeway in Cocoa Beach. If you want good selection and something other than fried you've got six good waterfront seafood restaurants in a row at the Port; Grills, Seafood Atlantic, Squid Lips, Baja Tavern, Rustys and Millikens. My favorite there is Seafood Atlantic, ironically the least busy. No live music like the others but the best fresh seafood right out of the seafood market on the same property. They're serving royal reds right now. You're not going to find that on any other menus.
