My Father-In-Law, who is currently living with us, wants to have his own place when we move to the area.

He is on a very limited income and is not able to drive due to his vision and does not take very good care of himself if left to his own devices.

He gets money from the VA and SSA but is not a military retiree.

I am looking to help him have some independence if it is at all feasible but don't know where to look. I was thinking of a retirement apartment setting close to public transportation and/or places he could walk to.

We are planning on getting a place near Lake Washington or Melbourne, somewhere close to 95 and possibly on the west side of 95 if I can find a place with some acreage...

I am in the Air Force, so I want relatively good access to the base but want enough space/land to have room for our stuff, see attachment! Many places are going to limit where I can keep them...

Try Trinity Towers in Melbourne - Talk with Priscilla in Trinity South Towers. This is very nice HUD housing that he will likely qualify for if he is near 60-62 and is, as you describe, somewhat disabled. (Good neighborhood, amenities and newly remodeled facilities) The monthly fee is 30-percent of his income, plus a $150 per month meal plan.

There is a pretty sizeable waiting list for the North and West buildings (non-impaired/disabled buildings), but, less for the South.
