We live in South Daytona and are thinking of a move. It's nice enough here, but it's old retirees and locals w/ not much education working low end service tourist jobs. From what I've seen of Florida, this is a given in a lot of areas. The problem is that w/o a local economy that is vibrant, things are dead. There's literally no art, no soul. You know what I mean? There's a dearth of creative types, and it's dull. dull, dull. Is Brevard different in this regard? I was thinking that maybe the high tech space industry (which has surely cut way back now) would give a population w/ a higher education base, possibly more liberal politics, and a sense of art and culture. That's what I think, and I've been wrong before, so I thought I'd ask about the feel of this area. Or maybe we need to be looking at Miami or The Keys, both of which we really can't afford. Thanks.

I think Brevard is >>> Volusia in many ways.... better (less touristy, cleaner) beaches, better economy (more engineers, NASA/space, defense industry companies leading to a higher median income), better shopping etc. Not sure about the politics though.

Brevard schools are rated much higher than Volusia schools as a whole.
