Can Anyone Give Me Info On The Cocoa Area? Not The Beach Area. I'm Thinking Of Moving To This Area In The Next Month Or So With My Boyfriend And Daughter And Dogs. Can Anyone Tell Me What Neighborhoods To Stay Away Due To Crime, Etc. Any Feedback On The Area Would Be Greatly Appreciated. Thanks

I just left Cocoa - We lived in the East Canaveral Groves area it is an ok area. Most homes are on an acre or more. There are alot of areas I would stay away from but I don't know how to describe them to some one who doesn't know the area. Are you looking to buy or rent?

Hey,

I've lived in the Cocoa/Merritt Island/Cocoa Beach area all my life. Be very, very cautious moving to Cocoa. Some areas are very nice, and some are rough; even in nice areas, homeowners are wise to have good security, as they are frequently targets. I don't know how old your daughter is, but the schools in Cocoa are iffy. I would not put my kids in any public Cocoa school. You are better off in north or south Merritt Island, or especially, the beach areas. The beach schools are the best, particularly Cocoa Beach High or Satellite High. You can always talk with realtors (use a BUYERS realtor, not a sellers realtor to get better info), and you can always call the local police. They won't give you "official opinions" but you can ask if that officer, personally, would feel comfortable himself living in such and such a neighborhood, and you can also ask for crime statistics. A local newspaper, "Florida Today," also carries a section that lists recent crimes and where and when they occurred. The Cocoa section is usually quite long while the others are shorter. Good luck.

I live in port St. john. no crime problems. but you'd best have a good job lined up. Jobs are scarce here and getting less all the time. I'd definitely avoid Cocoa itself. lots of crime.

What is there in Port St. John? Are there any restaurants, gas stations, banks, grocery stores, places to shop? It seems like mostly a residential area. Where do Port St. John residents go to do their usual grocery shopping or wal-mart/target shopping?
