ok, so here it goes... I have a pool in MA with a heater and a nice enclosed fence. No screened in pool because it won't handle the snow/ice loads unless you want to pay $50,000 idk. I have not been able to use my pool some days due to flying gnats and mosquitoes at night.

I was just curious if you all have seen the pools enclosed in states other than FL, just question for you all except you negative comments are not needed. geez really!

Not so at all.

I don't know if yard spraying works for the gnats, but I've heard it's very effective for mosquitos. For what it's worth, I've never seen pool enclosures in states that get cold. I think in that case they'll usually do a solarium or an indoor pool. Indoor pools can do a lot of damage to the home due to humidity though.

You don't see them as much in colder states because of the snow load, as the original poster just suggested. Snow is heavy and will destroy most enclosures. For the warmer states, I believe they do exist but not in lower economic areas due to their general high cost. Just getting one in Florida now, due to the strict Huricane codes, makes it quite expensive unless one existed and you just re-screen it. I have one property with the enclosure and it is the way to go if you can afford it. Mine was already up but needed new screens and screws. Looks great and has held up even through the last few storms and it was from over 15 years ago before the new codes.

In Houston, where the mosquitoes are ferocious, I never saw the enclosures. I was struck and a little confused by their purpose when I recently began exploring FL housing options.

When I was a kid in Florida (Brevard County) our neighbors had their pool enclosed. It helped with the sun, and it kept stuff from getting in the water, like pine needles and other wind-carried stuff.

The enclosures are regional even in Florida. You don't see many of then in Duval or St. Johns Counties.
