I agree about the value you get on the real estate here. But what can often be a problem, if still at a working age, is getting a well paying job in the field you are in. Housing prices is one thing and no state tax is great, but a lot of the rest of costs are still similar. Super markets and food in general, medical, insurance (much higher per $1 coverage) and travel are all similar. So you better have some good equity to cash out and bring down with you or you may find yourself looking to move back where you can get work in your expertise.
But retiring down here or getting the right job before the move, then it is a no brainer.

Sold our house in Sebastian in 3 days, full price offer. 12 viewings.

House is very nice and on the less expensive end of the market and is going to a VA loan.
That's the market in this area.

Sounds like if we can't depend on the funds in SS a lot of us older folk won't be able to afford the area either. Permanent cut of those taxes on our W2s means SS will run out in less than 3 years, so they say. I know we depend on it to tide us over since everything bad happened in our last 6 years before retirement and we had to use the 401 etc to live till Disability came in from 2004-2009 basically.

Seeing some price reductions out there in several areas, like Merrit Island. Unless the house is very well renovated, It does not seem to be getting the bidding wars of a few months ago. I will leave out Cocoa Beach as inventory is so low there, prices are still way up. Covid continues but should be ending by 3rd quarter of 2021 in my opinion. New President too makes gambling on the market difficult now.
Happy Thanksgiving out there. Wishing you all full bellies and time to reflect on what you have to be thankful for.

Inventory is scary low in Cocoa Beach. There are only 16 existing houses for sale in CB right now, cheapest asking price, $539,000. More than that closed in October and over half were at prices below $500,000. We are barely hanging on in the single-family home market. Condos are a little better but still at all-time low numbers for sale. Asking prices are ridiculous and low appraisals are fairly common. I'm interested to see what our snowbird season looks like this year. We are in uncharted territory.

I am so glad we bought our condo early last year, though with PA's travel restrictions being enforced by my employer and my son's campus, we've canceled out Christmas trip. Praying for a spring trip after DS's spring semester ends and he can quarantine if necessary.

Missing the beach, but it seems like Brevard is being hit with some PA weather this week anyway.

With many states enforcing travel restrictions, it will be an interesting snowbird season as 1insider pointed out. Very uncharted territory.

I read that Canadian snowbirds are shipping their vehicles across the Great Lakes because they are not allowed to travel by road into the country, but they are flying into US cities, getting into their cars and driving down anyway. Some people just won't give an inch for the greater good.

My cameras inside the condo are working, as is the smart thermostat, so I know all is well there. Though I desperately want to walk the beach, I'll wait.

I am seeing families whose kids are in virtual school and the parents working from home come down to live the winter in Florida instead of dealing with snow. They do not worry about the quarantine. Which just makes us Floridians that are 60+ stay closer to home. I cannot even get friends to walk on the beach with me let lone go out to eat or to a theme park. Well, my son that works at the theme parks refuses to let me go to one of those anyway, but I am so sick of my own cooking. And my husband seems to be getting weirder and weirder .

BTW Sea World is doing a great Christmas this year with lots of entertainers and decorations. Just wish I could use my pass. Disney not doing a lot this year.

My cooking repertoire has expanded as I've explored new recipes to keep things interesting. There has never been a better time to try new dishes. In hubby's defense, I think the weirder thing has hit us all.
