These are exciting times for Brevard County & Space Exploration!

Fox news reported the Space Industry in Brevard County has been expanding into the commercial sector, bringing in jobs and money to strengthen our economy.

According the the article, "As of 2018, 21 firms have signed deals to bring up to 3,000 high-paying jobs to the area, according to Space Florida. In exchange, the state has offered subsidies to build up infrastructure and make Florida the place for space.

'Before, everything was built and designed elsewhere and then came here for launch,' said Dale Ketchum, Space Florida’s vice president of governmental and external affairs. 'We’re no longer reliant on the federal government as the only customer.'

The space industry shifted as well. Space no longer revolves around government programs. It is now a commercial industry and new technology, like reusable rockets and small satellites, are driving a large part of that.

'The space race that drove our earlier success is coming back, but in a different format,'said Ketchum.

He calls the shift a 'renaissance' driven by commercial enterprise, allowing for lower costs, resulting in more launches and jobs—a far more sustainable plan, he said."

In fact, they are planning to have the first manned American made spacecraft launch since 2011 within the next year!

I felt blessed to witness the final shuttle launch, and can't wait to watch similar launches in the coming years.

7 years ago when I immigrated to America from Hungary, I thought finally i can move to Florida. Nope, I found no jobs here (through online search), so I had to move to Silicon Valley. Maybe now I can finally move to Florida and still have my career continue on the same track as a hardware design engineer...

I think 7 years ago was tough just about anywhere for a job. We were still in the middle of the great recession.
It was a great time to pick up cheap real estate though!

I wouldn't say 'cheap', but affordable. Before the market takes off with increased demand for housing!

I picked up two homes back in 2012 that cost less than what it cost when they were built 25 years earlier. Now, seven years later, they have nearly tripled in value. In my book, that was cheap for what you got seven years ago. I wish I could go back and buy more, if I had only known...

This is true. In looking at homes for sale, I see direct oceanfront homes built in late 2000's >3000 sq. Feet with pool sold at a firesale price in the 600's in 2012 now on the market close to $2M. Incredible.

Maybe that's a general trend in desirable areas across the country, because my house in California is worth over $1M, while it was valued $400k in 2011. I got in half way. That's a cheaper area, more upscale places had bigger multiply in their prices, like $650k to $2.7M.

This is one example. Sold for $625k in 2012. Total Steal.
