I used to live in CCB and work on CCAFS. I remember getting up at all hours to watch the Delta-II's go up, as well as the awesome STS and Titan-IVB launches. I even surfed the pier by rocket light one night, just to say I did it.

I recently read that SpaceX launched 4 Falcon-9's in just 16 days! For those who have lived through quieter times, does it seem like there are a lot of launches these days? Do you find them disruptive, exciting, or just ordinary?

It happens so often now that, for the most part it's a non-event. Still exciting but unless it's a special launch at night, I don't go out to watch. Fascinating to live in a place where rockets leave the Earth on a regular basis and where seeing them in the sky is a common occurrence. Watching the Falcons descending after separation to land at night is really cool.

Lived in Satellite Beach, just South of Cape Kennedy for 26-years. We could watch the launches from our condo balcony (on the ocean) - and they often seemed like amazing events. On a night launch, we went down to the beach to watch and .... looking down at our feet, saw hundreds of baby turtles rushing to the water.

Another night, I saw the countdown on TV and went out on the balcony to watch it live. I couldn't see it - and wondered if there was cloud cover or what. After rushing between the TV and balcony several times, I was perplexed, until I realized that the TV launch ... was a recording!

After a while, the launches got a little redundant, yet still entertaining. My wife was an elementary school principal at the cape. Whenever they had a daytime launch, the entire school went outside to watch. They also had a few astronauts periodically visit the school.

The above posts make me smile. I was born in, and lived in Titusville until I was 12. My dad worked at the cape...basically, everyone I knew, their mom or dad worked at the cape. Rocket launches were always a big deal...to us anyway. We could stand in the middle of our street and see the VA building.

I had just moved to Melbourne when I went outside to watch the STS-51L launch of Challenger.

Now, for locals the launches are pretty much routine non-events.
Most of the Falcons land their booster on the off-shore barge out of sight from Florida.

The recent manned ISS crew missions have drawn good crowds. The Delta Heavy and Falcon Heavy launches are worth watching, providing the spectacle of the Shuttle flights.
Best experience is watching the Falcon Heavy from Jetty park. BOTH boosters land simultaneously just north of Port Canaveral, the sonic booms are quite the experience!

I disagree about the mundane attitude for locals. Maybe we don't go sit on site, on the river in Titusville, etc. for 6-8 hours to watch a launch any more, but we stop what we are doing and go outside and watch. We do plan to see launches and even take friends and family who are visiting closer to watch so they can experience the excitement, the sounds, and even feel the ground move sometimes. I so miss going on site to watch since we can't get the free passes from work any more since 911 changed security and you now have to buy passes.

Look at the Brevard is Beautiful site on Face Book and you will see the excitement through pictures taken of every launch by us locals.

It does not get old and mundane. It is an ongoing experiment that we do not want to miss.

Looked up while on the Cocoa Beach golf course yesterday afternoon to see an Atlas rocket leaving the Earth.

From where I am the trains are a lot more annoying than the rockets, I'll tell you that.
