My friend was bicycling from Florida to Rhode Island and he said in Brevard Co every cop stopped him because he had a bicycle and a backpack. They would say "Oh so you have a plan?" He said "Yes of course I have a plan!"

Also the shelters in Broward Co Ft Lauderdale are rehab industry based. They can be there all day, sleeping, taking classes on aa. The state pays so much to the house per person. They're not allowed to get a job. So they ask for money. Nothing is available for non drug rehab homeless and they are turned away.

It is true that we see more and more panhandlers on every street corner. I also doubt that most of them are really destitute.

That said, it's a free country. A person should be able to stand around on the street corner, hat in hand, as long as they aren't hurting anyone. This country, and Florida in particular, is turning into a police state where the authorities control our every behavior whenever it is offensive to the "normal" citizens.

I don't know there's an awful lot of panhandlers in Ft Lauderdale. They walk on the divider, walk in the streets next to the cars. They don't just stand there with a sign. There's turf wars.

Run primarily by a political party whose platform stresses small government and individual liberties...of select sub-demographics that is.

Just spent the past two years being told from a certain party in DC whose jobs were essential, and which jobs were no longer allowed. Forced to be vaccinated or lose your job. Spending all my free time looking for toilet paper.

Begging is a business and part of the free market and as a conservative I think government should stay out of the market and let people do business as they please. Right?
