Can anyone tell me if Palm Bay has "neighborhood schools". I live in Port St. Lucie right now, and I grew up in Palm Bay. WE did not have but 3-4 schools all together then, we were so small...but now that it has grown, I wonder. The district here says because of the way GDC deevloped the area and infrastructure, there is no way to have nieghborhood school (I mean that people withing 2-5 miles of that school woudl have 1st choice of attendance there, so they are made up of the kids who live near the school). Here, you can live across the street from a school, and be bussed 10 miles away to another one...and i know GDC did Palm Bay as well, and they are very similar...so if anyone living htere now with kids can let meknow how the district assigns students that would be great.

Thanks!

More like "the Hood" actually.
My kids went to school in Palm Bay (post GDC). Naturally everything now is structured around FCAT so basically the politicians are telling the teachers what to do. There are still some great teachers out there but they aren't allowed to exercise their talent and creativity like they used to. Palm Bay's schools have changed as the population has changed. While years ago the social fabric of the schools consisted of jocks, surfers, rednecks, and geeks, there's now been a marked increase in the "hip-hop, gangsta-rap, spanish speaking, loud and in your face" culture. Drop your kids in that and see what they become. If you really want to know what your kids are up against while trying to get an education, check the crime reports;I did. We graphed all the data and mapped the curve. The result? ...I "freedom of choiced" my kids outa there!
