We're moving to Fort Walton Beach at the end of May and are looking up utlities and such... We need to get Cable and Internet and were told that Cox is the provider of these services for this area. Their fees are outrageous. Paying an extra $20 a month for HD service/Digital service.. Right now we pay $100+ tax for Time Warner including our HD box and HD/Digital Channels... Cox is like, $128 plus tax just for tv and internet! Isn't all cable going to be digital anyways!?

We looked into DirecTV but frankly, all of their packages and add-ons confuse me. It almost seems like it'd cost more. We are looking for digital cable, we have an HD tv and of course hubby wants fast internet and HD/Digital channels.

Are there any other providers out there or any promotions I should know about? We saw one promotion that expired Dec 2008 for three months at some reduced rate through Cox but I am still not impressed.

We are living in a rented townhouse for the time being as well, so I am not sure they're too keen on having a dish attached somewhere. I'd have to ask I suppose...

Thanks for any advice!

Unfortunately, unless you with with satellite, Cox Communications is the only cable choice. A lot of times, pricing has to do with the franchise agreements with the particular community you live in.

To explain the 'digital' part, to sum it up, what's occurring is you won't be able to use rabbit ears to pick up signal. If your tv is cable ready then you will not have to do anything. For right now, some channels still come in analog, and the digital channels are generally the higher number channels above 100.

I hope this helps!

I use cox for internet only, runs me 44 a month. Then, I use Direct TV for TV, that could run me as low as 90 a month, but I pay extra for every channel they offer.
