Hi there,

I am going to move to Niagara-buffalo area for a job in Amherst,NY from Toronto, Canada. I have a grade 8 boy who is in the gifted program in Canada.
He is more interested in a high school with a diversity of AP program so he can prepare himself for a better university (i.e Cornell,NYU ) in future. please help to recommend a better high school to meet his goal. Thanks a lot.

Williamsville district is ranked #1 in the area. All three high schools in the district are ranked in the top 15 (East #2, North #8 & South #14). Clarence is the 2nd higest ranked district.

Here is a link to the latest rankings with a ton of info .........

Hi jblake78728,Thanks a lot.

Is any difference between Williamsville High School and Williamsville South High School? Is it school safe?

Just my personal opinion here.
I attended/graduated with Regents diploma from South and felt I was very well prepared heading to college. The school has historically had excellent rankings in WNY. There are many extra-ciricular activites and a good % of the students are goal-oriented with college being a given as the next step in their student life.
Thanks and good luck in your decision. All the Williamsville schools are excellent by the way.

I heard that City Honors School in Buffalo proper is a very good school (by exam admission only though I think). It's always listed in Newsweek and other to high school lists.

There is Williamsville East, Williamsville North & Williamsville South, all 3 are part of the Williamsville District. I'd say all are good as far as academics are concerned & safe.

While city honors is a good choice, there are some rules to get in it.You have to live in the city of buffalo and admission is by passing a test + current school recommendation + above 80....admission is taken during the fall, that means your son will have to get tested in oct 2011 for admission in the 2012-2013 school year.

the best way to get in is when your child is going to 5th grade.my younger is going to 8th grade next year and only 4 spots are available, about 30-40 kids were tested meaning that 26-36 kids will not make it in.is supposed to be in the 10 best in the country.

Thanks a lot. My son is going to be grade 9. Now he is doing pretty well within a Canadian Gifted Program. I looked through city honors' website and it seems too late to apply grade 9. The main advantage of this school is it has IB program and not sure what's the accepted rate for the city honors graduates 2010 by Ivy Schools.
